There are a lot of different considerations that go into designing a kitchen, and building (or remodeling) a kitchen in a small space presents a particular challenge. With that in mind, we've rounded up five small (you could even say tiny) kitchens that still pack some serious style. There's plenty here to inspire your next remodel, and even a few solutions that will work in rental kitchens, too. (image credit: Ladny Dom)
Cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling are always a boon. In this kitchen, glass cabinets fill the space between the standard cabinets and the ceiling, adding storage but also a bit of character. The wall-mounted table provides extra workspace (and a spot to grab a bite) without bulkiness. The white wall with bevelled ceramic subway tile is making the room feels bigger. This kitchen works a particularly effective optical illusion — the wall that separates it from the foyer in this tiny apartment is mirrored, which makes the kitchen seem twice its size. I also love how, even in a small space, the designers didn't shy away from color, which gives the kitchen character without taking up space. (image credit: Nooks)
The most striking thing about this petite kitchen is the copper countertop and backsplash, which gives this small space its own unique character, and adds a bit of shine to brighten up the space. But there are also plenty of interesting details. Copper knobs and pulls coordinate with the backsplash, while a pot rail and magnetic knife rack provide much-needed extra storage. A windowsill is a nice home for a few cookbooks. (image credit: Main Street Stockholm)
This kitchen is small but particularly effective, thanks to a peninsula which helps to define the kitchen as a separate space without completely blocking it off from the rest of the apartment. It also adds quite a bit of counter space and storage, always welcome in a small kitchen. (image credit: Nooks)
This kitchen is one of the smallest I've seen, perhaps even smaller than the kitchen up top. (The rest of the apartment, which is marvelously efficient, is worth checking out too.) This little kitchen makes the most of its small footprint with full-height cabinets, a deep windowsill for extra storage, and a copper backsplash that adds character even in a small space.
